Mali: Intra-Africa trade and tariff profile
Approximately 50 per cent of Mali’s total trade is with other African countries, mainly South Africa, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. Apart from South Africa, all other main trade partners are ECOWAS countries (60 per cent of total intra-Africa trade). 76 per cent of exports are unwrought gold destined for South Africa. 57 per cent of intra-Africa imports are petroleum oil (not crude) from the rest of ECOWAS. 99 per cent of non-ECOWAS intra-Africa exports are the gold exports to South Africa. South Africa is also Mali’s main source country for intra-Africa imports from non-ECOWAS countries. Main import products are cigarettes, machinery parts, and polypropylene.
