Ghana: 2019 intra-Africa trade and tariff profile
Ghana mainly trades with global trade partners and intra-Africa trade is mainly with countries which are not members of ECOWAS. This is due to the dominance of South Africa both as destination and source market. 57 per cent of Ghana’s total intra-Africa trade is with South Africa. 97 per cent of intra-Africa exports to African countries outside ECOWAS are to South Africa, mainly semi-manufactured gold and crude petroleum oil which enter the South African market free of duties. Imports are also mainly from South Africa, including vehicles, steel grinding balls and prepared explosives. Other imports include frozen fish sourced from Mauritania and prepared sardines imported from Morocco.
