Uganda: Intra-Africa trade and tariff profile

For 2019, Uganda’s intra-Africa exports are 16 per cent less than for 2018. Imports increased by 47 per cent between 2018 and 2019. Imports of gold, cigarettes, material bags, ceramics, and frozen vegetables increased. Of the top 10 export products, exports of sugar, tea, maize, unmanufactured tobacco, palm oil, milk and cream, and grain sorghum declined. Uganda mainly trades with countries in the same regional economic communities (EAC, COMESA, and IGAD). Especially other EAC member states; Kenya and Tanzania. Outside EAC and COMESA, Uganda mainly trades with South Africa; 1 per cent of Uganda’s intra-Africa exports and 19 per cent of intra-Africa imports.
