Cameroon’s trade composition with Africa is relatively concentrated in a few products in terms for both imports and exports, albeit imports are more concentrated. Cameroon has a trade deficit with Africa. In 2017, intra-Africa exports were valued at US$ 778 million while imports were over US$ 1.8 billion. Intra-Africa exports account for 12% of Cameroon’s global exports while intra-Africa imports account for 18% of Cameroon’s global imports.

The bulk of exports were destined to ECCAS states – Chad; Gabon; Central Africa Republic and Congo and accounted for 52% of Cameroon’s intra-Africa exports. Nigeria; Senegal and Togo, although not members of ECCAS featured in the top 10 with a combined share of 26% of Cameroon’s intra-Africa exports in 2017. Top 10 export destinations accounted for 91% of Cameroon’s total intra-Africa exports.

In terms of import sources, Togo; Nigeria; Morocco and South Africa (all of which are non-REC members) accounted for 70% of Cameroon’s intra-Africa imports. Mauritania; Ivory Coast; Egypt and Senegal accounted for an additional 16% share of Cameroon’s intra-Africa imports. Top 10 countries had a combined import share of 92% in 2017.
