Zambia: intra-African trade and tariff profile 2022
The value of Zambia’s intra-African trade (imports + exports) was US$8.49 billion, accounting for 41% of Zambia’s total trade in 2022. The main intra-African trading partners of Zambia are South Africa, Equatorial Guinea and DRC. These three countries account for 92% of Zambia’s intra-African trade.
Zambia’s intra-African exports in 2022 amounted to about US$3 billion, accounting for 26% of Zambia’s total exports. Between 2021 and 2022, Zambia’s intra-African exports increased by 40%. Zambia mainly exports sulphur, electrical energy, sulphuric acid, non-alcoholic beverages and cement to other African countries. 74% of Zambia’s intra-African exports are destined for DRC and Equatorial Guinea. Zambia’s main destination markets are COMESA and SADC members, except for Equatorial Guinea.
The value of Zambia’s intra-African imports was US$5.5 billion, 61% of the Zambia’s total imports from the world. Zambia’s intra-African imports surged by 73% between 2021 and 2022. The main intra-African imports are copper ores & concentrates and cobalt. South Africa, Equatorial Guinea and DRC are the main source markets, accounting for 97% of Zambia’s intra-African imports.
