Workshop on financial sector policy development: Lesotho, 20-23 November 2016
tralac research advisor, Ashly Hope, travelled to Lesotho from 20-23 November 2016 to conduct a workshop on financial sector policy development, and to engage with trade officials.
The workshop, conducted in conjunction with the Central Bank of Lesotho, was delivered to 21 participants from across the Lesotho public sector in support of the implementation of Lesotho’s Financial Sector Development Strategy (FSDS). The one-day workshop included sessions on the rationale for policies, the process for policy development (including a session from the Ministry of Finance), tools for policy development and policy writing.
The workshop encouraged participation, with attendees engaging with one another on the above topics and drafting a template policy document to be used to support the FSDS policy development. The workshop was also an opportunity for networking for these officials who will need to collaborate to implement the FSDS. Feedback from the participants and hosts was positive.
Ashly also met with officials from the Ministry of Trade regarding trade in services and discussed progress on SADC, TFTA and CFTA negotiations.
