tralac’s inaugural Women in Trade Governance development programme residential took place in Cape Town during the week of 8 July 2019. Twelve future leaders in trade governance gathered to network, learn and reflect.

tralac hosted a policy workshop on e-commerce, trade and the digital economy in Cape Town with the aim of demystifying e-commerce and creating a pragmatic ‘to-do list’ to address governance gaps.

tralac and Sidley Austin’s Pro bono program co-organised an AfCFTA breakfast meeting in Geneva on the theme, The AfCFTA: From Dream to Reality.

On invitation from the African Union Commission, two tralac alumni (Chikezie Adindu Isiguzo and Cham Etienne Bama) participated in an AUC-ECOWAS-GIZ Capacity-Building and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop in Abuja, Nigeria.

The 2019 tralac Annual Conference featured a poster session where a series of posters were presented by tralac alumni on a range of current trade policy and law issues. These are available to download.
22-03-2019   Annual Conference
tralac launched its ‘Women in Trade Governance Network’ during its 2019 Annual Conference in Nairobi. The WiTG targets female professionals working in trade policy and governance with the aim to build technical capacity in international trade governance.

This year’s tralac Annual Conference was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 21-22 March 2019 under the theme, ‘Africa’s Integration Agenda – from Aspirations to Pragmatic Implementation’

tralac organised an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Stakeholder Workshop on 18-19 October 2018 in Cape Town to discuss the status of the negotiations and what still lies ahead.

tralac held its first Alumni Workshop in Cape Town on 3-4 May. All participants were graduates of tralac’s various capacity building programmes. The alumni shared how tralac training has shaped their careers.

tralac hosted a High-Level Dialogue on SACU, with a focus on the SACU Work Programme and Future Developments. Participants came from the private and public sectors across the region.

tralac co-hosted an AfCFTA Awareness Workshop in Harare, Zimbabwe, bringing together participants from government, private sector and civil society to examine the newly launched African trade pact.
22-03-2018 to 23-03-2018   Annual Conference
tralac held its 2018 Annual Conference on 22 and 23 March in Kigali, Rwanda under the theme “The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) – Opportunity for Africa”. The Conference followed the 10th Extraordinary AU Summit which launched the AfCFTA.

On 6 February, tralac joined Wesgro, along with the US embassy, the USAID Trade and Investment Hub and the dti in presenting an exporter-focused AGOA seminar at the new Invest SA One Stop Shop in Cape Town
