More action with Dlamini-Zuma at AU helm: Minister
Posted on Tuesday, July 17th, 2012 by Sapa (Times LIVE) in NewsNewly-elected African Union commission head, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will make sure its resolutions are put into action, International Affairs and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said on Monday.
“What should change [with her election]… is that there will be more accountability, there will be more fast-tracking of implementations of decisions taken by the heads of state,” Nkoana-Mashabane told SAfm.
“That means, spend more time on implementation of our resolutions instead of just creating more and more [resolutions].”
Nkoana-Mashabane said her election on Sunday evening was a victory for women.
Dlamini-Zuma, who is the home affairs minister, would through the AU “strengthen early warning systems, strengthen democracy and rule of law, and unity”, Nkoana-Mashabane said.
Dlamini-Zuma, the first woman to hold the post, beat the incumbent, Jean Ping of Gabon, in a closely-fought election over several rounds of voting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Sunday night.
